Novare Design has undertaken an assessment and strengthening scheme for the 1930’s Erskine Chapel in Island Bay, Wellington, which is a category 1 heritage building. Novare completed a 3-dimentional finite element model of all primary and secondary elements and provided an assessment of the status of the building.

A combination of intrusive and non-intrusive investigation was required to identify the structural aspects of the Unreinforced Masonry (URM) walls and buttresses. From this a retrofit option was established to bring the Erskine Chapel up to 67%NBS (IL2), in accordance with Wellington City Council decision.
